I’ve written previously about the menace to society that is dropped vowels in Web 2.0 start-up names. Well, a new website could inject some originality into website naming conventions.
NameThis really is a piece of genius if you’re searching for a name for your idea. All you do is post an summary of what your product does. Users of the site then suggest names and vote for their favourites by ‘investing points’. After 48 hours the site works out the best three names and they’re yours. For just $99 this could be a bargain for companies who can’t get their imaginations out of the irritating web 2.0 conventions.
Some of the names that have been crowdsourced through the site so far look really good. A “Baby & Children’s product website” was named Talana Kids while a watch that vibrates to alert deaf or blind people to things like the phone ringing or a smoke alarm was named AllArm (as a fan of pus I really like that one!).
What’s more $80 of the fee is divided up amongst the person who suggested the name and those who voted for it. Fantastic! I reckon I’ll be spending some time there myself…
